Alaska is a good place to start if you want to see the Northern Lights and can’t venture to Europe. Fairbanks, Alaska is located inside the Aurora oval, or the geographic area above which the Northern Lights commonly appear. You’ll need to get far away from the city that you don’t see the ambient city lights. You’re advised to go when it’s dark, and cloudless. You can even check the local geographical institute to see the likelihood of seeing the lights. Thanks to Fairbanks’ geographic location, the city is directly beneath the Aurora oval and you may see some of the most astounding sky light shows. Haystacks Mountain and Chena Lakes Recreation Area have been recommended by the geographical institute as good viewing spots.
