At the beginning of each new year, we often find ourselves making New Year’s resolutions, or a promise to change or adopt a behavior. Often New Year’s resolutions are about health and fitness, and sometimes about breaking a bad habit, such as smoking or drinking soda. Some experts say we should focus on developing good habits in the New Year, and so we decided to round up 17 habits you should develop for 2017.
Get More Sleep
We live in a busy society. Everything seems like it’s rushed all the time, and often, our sleep falls victim to our crazy schedules. This year, make a continued habit of getting more sleep; you’ll do your body good. Sleep deprivation has been linked to high blood pressure, weight gain, and increased risk of heart disease. However, getting the proper amount of sleep has good benefits, such as letting your body recharge, reducing stress levels and improving memory.
Action Tip: Shut off all screens and electronics 30-60 minutes before bed. The bright lights trick your brain into thinking it needs to stay awake, so it’s often harder to fall asleep after you’ve been watching TV or using a tablet or playing on your phone. Instead, pick up a book, and read.
